Replacing the aperture cable in Canon EF-S 17-85 mm

This is the process of replacing the flat flex cable for the aperture assembly of the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM. Apparently some of the early models were susceptible for this cable to break. Official repair by Canon costs more than a brand new lens, but aftermarket cables are available.

It is not so much a tutorial video, but it shows what the process looks like. If you suffer the same problem, judge for yourself if you feel comfortable doing it on your own. Maybe it is also of some help if you have doubts in which order things go back together.

This was my first attempt to make a time-lapse video. Back in 2012 youtube couldn’t handle 4k video so it hibernated on my hard disk – until now.
